Oats

The oat (Avena sativa), sometimes called the common oat, is a species of cereal grain grown for its seed. Oats are a nutrient-rich grain associated with lower blood cholesterol when consumed regularly, and other benefits when used in skin and cleansing products. Many dermatologists recommend oatmeal for sensitive, allergy- or eczema-prone skin. It is an excellent moisturizer with skin-healing, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and itch-relieving benefits.

Facial Cleanser

Oats act as a mild cleanser because of its saponin content. Many people with sensitive skin also use oats as a homemade cleanser for dry skin.

Eczema

Oats help in the recovery of the eczematous skin by moisturizing, restoring the skin barrier, reducing itching, and regulating inflammation. Colloidal oatmeal or grounded oats can be added to lukewarm water in the shower or bathtub, to soothe irritated and itchy skin due to any cause. Oat cleansers for dry skin and eczema-prone skin are an excellent alternative to harsh commercial surfactants and cleansers. The use of oats might reduce the need for steroids as well.

Exfoliant

The gritty nature of oats makes it an excellent exfoliant for sensitive skins that cannot tolerate the usual exfoliators.

Moisturizes

Oats are included in many moisturizers available in the market thanks to their lipids and protein content which have humectant, occlusive and emollient properties.

Anti-Ageing

Antioxidant benefits in oats can help reverse damage caused by UV rays, pollution, and harsh chemicals on your skin, and help control signs of ageing by making your skin look fresh, youthful, plump and firm. Oat cleansers can help reduce wrinkles and fine lines, tone your skin and gently clean your pores.

Sunburns

Like Aloe Vera, oat cleansers can hydrate, soothe and speed up the healing process of skin burned by the sun.

Itchy Skin

Oat can reduce itching in various skin diseases ranging from dermatitis to fungal infections when used for cleansing and bathing.

Psoriasis

Oats help the healing of psoriasis lesion owing to their anti-inflammatory properties.
